RED NOSES International is looking for an experienced researcher who can lead this innovative research project focusing on the impact of healthcare clown interventions on the emotional well-being of migrant children and aid workers in Lesvos, Greece. The project will take place during a 3-year time frame (2025-2027). Interested candidates are invited to apply.
 

Research Project Overview

The Emergency Smile Research Project aims to assess the effect of clowning activities on:

  • The emotional well-being of displaced children, including unaccompanied minors in Lesvos.
  • The emotional well-being and stress level of aid workers in Lesvos.

The project seeks to fill a gap in the literature regarding the impact of arts on health in humanitarian settings and provide a basis for strategic policy decisions aimed at improving the living conditions of people involved in forced migration.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Psychology or a related field, with a strong background in both qualitative and quantitative research methods including pre- and post-test design, randomized control trials or quasi-experimental design. Experience in volatile field settings, particularly with displaced populations and children, is essential. The researcher will be based in Lesvos for extended periods, working closely with local organizations, RED NOSES teams, and other stakeholders. Some of the key responsibilities of the researcher will be: 

  • Develop and implement a detailed research proposal, including data collection and analysis plans. 
  • Conduct fieldwork in Lesvos, including desk reviews, interviews, focus groups, and surveys. 
  • Engage with local stakeholders to coordinate the data collection in the field.
  • Analyse data and produce high-quality academic publications in peer-reviewed journals. 

This freelance position offers an annual remuneration of €48,000 (all taxes included), covering the researcher’s time, travel, and accommodation costs. Please note that the position is subject to funding confirmation by December 2024.

Position summary

We are seeking an experienced and creative International Programme Manager to join our Programme department team and reports to the Head of department. The ideal candidate will have a background in artistic, cultural, and social impact-driven projects, with a strong understanding of well-being (both physical and mental health), social inclusion, and interculturality.
 

Your tasks

  • Facilitate collaboration and exchange processes with programme managers in various countries, focusing on knowledge      management and skill development.
  • Lead the implementation of international projects.
  • Manage an internal innovation fund, including the allocation of small grants for creative projects.
  • Collaborate with teams of artists to develop and implement projects aimed at creating a positive social impact.
  • Ensure adherence to grant management and financial reporting standards.
  • Facilitate meetings to effectively support teams and achieve project goals.
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes
     

Your profile

  • Proven experience in managing cultural and artistic projects with a focus on social impact.
  • Strong understanding of social inclusion and intercultural dynamics.
  • Experience in international grant management and financial reporting.
  • Solid facilitation skills with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Knowledge of social design principles, as well as public health and/or mental health topics, is an advantage.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages spoken by RED NOSES partner    organizations is a plus. 
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required by the role.
  • Willingness to be vaccinated (especially COVID).
