RED NOSES healthcare clowning evaluation - learning and evaluation

RED NOSES evaluation reports provide an insight into some of our artistic programmes and activities. Furthermore, they help contextualise our interventions with reference to our mission Framework of Change.

RED NOSES is dedicated to evidence-based management, transparency and accountability. We use scientific and creative methods of data collection to monitor and evaluate our activities. As a result, we measure how our work improves emotional wellbeing, promotes social inclusion and creates more supportive environments.

Moreover, this allows us to objectively learn from our practice. Together, these insights provide recommendations on how to strengthen our interventions. Above all, they help us consistently improve our impact on the ground.

Evaluation Reports

Understanding Change

In 2021–2022, the Emergency Smile programme integrated a developmental evaluation approach. Together, team members developed a deeper and shared understanding of the impact of clowning activities. Furthermore, this healthcare clowning evaluation presents stories about how Emergency Smile contributed to positive changes across different domains. These include access to arts and self-expression, wellbeing, play, confidence and inclusion.

As a result, the outcomes help the Emergency Smile team deliver more effective and joyful missions. Additionally, they serve as tools for clown artists, children and aid workers to reflect on what happened during an activity. Finally, the outcomes inform communication about the kinds of change expected from the Emergency Smile programme.
